I'm an 18-year-old college student and I live in Syracuse NY, and want to get a bartending license so I have more job options. I'd prefer to take a course that isnt too time consuming. Also, how much does it cost?|||It is different in the State that you live in. You need to take a course online or at a local college. I prefer taking the course online (roughly $18.00). This is a 4 hour class online at your own computer if you have one. Once you pass the course you will recieve your certificate through the mail. Once you get the certificate you then go down to the Municipal Building and fill out a form for you bartenders license. When doing this you will need your certificate, ID, and roughly $75.00. I live in Wisconsin and this is what I had to do.

FACT: No license is needed to bartend; as long as you are 18 you can apply for a bartending job! Some establishment may request that you have a certification from an established and licensed bartending school, but it is not required by law. However, if you are serious about bartending in New York then you need a school that is equally serious about it's bartending training. When the bar manager puts you behind that busy bar for the first time, you had better know what you are doing! When you research bartending schools in New York then we suggest you sit in on a class on the first day of the start of a class and again on the last day when that same students are taking their speed test! You will soon see how good (or not) the training of that bartending school is! It is also a good time to talk to the students and get their opinion of the school's training!|||Contact numbers for NY State Liquor Authority:
