Lovie Smith led the Bears to the Super Bowl as the lowest paid head coach in the NFL. Why aren't they showing Lovie the damn money? I think race very well could be a factor in this. They also didn't offer a contract to Ron Rivera who is a Latino and let him leave for a linebackers coach postion. There's something fishy going on in Chicago.|||It has nothing to do with race. Stop playing that as an excuse for everything that happens in society. Maybe his coaching styles and techniques are a little troublesome to the organization. Maybe they question the ability to produce Rex Grossman or any future QB. Maybe the believe it was a one season deal and that is that. Like the person said above, it is business. Get a coach that led a team to the Super Bowl and don't have to pay him as much as anyone else, then you got a nice business. I don't hear him complaining. Have you ever thought that maybe it doesn't bother him and he sees it as very benificial to the team. Think of other scenarios besides the race card. I doubt it has anything to do with it considering the majority of the team is African American. And maybe Ron Rivera wanted to go to San Diego. Saw the opportunity to be able and step up into a possible head coaching job with the loss of Marty. Or saw an actual chance at winning a Super Bowl with both a talented offense and defense. Rivera wanted out of Chicago (and Lovie said he wanted to go a different way....surely Lovie isnt any more a racist than the bears management), he felt his career was being stymied by being in the same place doing the same thing for so long. He has been a head coach candidate and believe me he is listening very closely to the input from teams interviewing him and realized he needed to work his craft with a different set of talent. it was very wise of him to go to S.D. and he is very aware that if the D does well he will be a candidate to take over a very good Charger team. Turner wont last long there, everybody in the NFL knows this...including Rivera. Lovie had more to do Riverawith leaving Chicago than the Bear management did, he did it to advance his career and instead of ripping Chicago be grateful he was given such a wonderful opportunity. It surprises me you would think something fishy is going on there, they have given minority coaches more opportunities than a lot of teams do and those very guys have capitalized on their situations. Sounds decidedly more like they have created opportunities, not stolen it from minorities.|||The Rivera firing was Lovie Smith's decision to go in another direction at defensive coordinator so I do not agree that the race card came into play as with Rivera. As for Lovie Smith, I really have the foggiest idea why Angelo is penny pinching. He got his team to the Bowl inspite of Grossman. Smith is the key to stability and contention for this team. Otherwise, with a "lame duck" coach, players and FA's on other teams will be less likely to sign with the Bears come 2008. There's always going to be a "lowest-paid" coach in the NFL. I think it's merely coincidence with Lovie Smith being in the Super Bowl. That and his religion might have something to do with it, his life goal isn't accumulating wealth, so he probably isn't pushing as hard for his worth.
